Saint Elizabeth of Portugal

Saint Elizabeth of Portugal

Typology: Queen

Date: 2024-07-04

Act of sorrow

My God, I repent and sorrow with all my heart for my sins, because by sinning I have deserved your chastisements, and much more because I have offended you, infinitely good and worthy of being loved above all things.
I propose with your holy help never to offend you again and to flee the coming occasions of sin. Lord, mercy, forgive me.

Angel of God

Angel of God, who are my guardian, enlighten, guard, rule and govern me who was entrusted to you by Heavenly Mercy. Amen.

Salve Regina

Hail, Queen, mother of mercy; life, sweetness and our hope, hail.
To you we turn, exiled children of Eve; to you we sigh, moaning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Therefore, O our advocate, turn those merciful eyes of yours upon us.
And show us, after this exile, Jesus, the blessed fruit of your womb.
O merciful, O pious, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Confiteor

I confess to Almighty God and to you, brethren, that I have greatly sinned in thoughts, words, works and omissions: through my fault, my fault, my very great fault.
And I beseech the blessed ever Virgin Mary, the angels, the saints and you, brothers, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail, O Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Gloria

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, now and forever, for ever and ever.
Amen.

I think

I believe in one God, Almighty Father, creator of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages: God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not created, of the same substance as the Father; through him all things were created.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; and by the Holy Spirit he became incarnate in the womb of the Virgin Mary and became man.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, died and was buried.
On the third day he was resurrected, according to the Scriptures, he ascended into heaven, he sits at the right hand of the Father.
And again he will come, in glory, to judge the living and the dead, and his reign will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, who is Lord and gives life, and proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified, and he spoke through the prophets.
I believe the Church, one, holy, catholic and apostolic.
I profess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, I give you my heart and soul; Jesus, Joseph and Mary, assist me in my last agony;
Jesus, Joseph and Mary, may my soul depart in peace with you.

Eternal rest

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Rest in peace.
Amen.

At the end of the day

At the end of the day, we thank you, Lord, for all the benefits we have received.
Forgive all our guilt and grant us a peaceful night.
Amen.

O Jesus of burning love

O Jesus of burning love, had I never offended thee!
O my dear and good Jesus, by your holy grace, I do not want to offend you any more, nor ever again disgust you, for I love you above all things.
My Jesus, mercy, forgive me.

Angelus

The Angel of the Lord brought the announcement to Mary,

  • And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
    Hail Mary...
Here is the handmaid of the Lord.
  • Be made of me according to your word.
    Hail Mary...
    And the Word became flesh.
  • And he came to dwell among us.
    Hail Mary...
Pray for us, holy Mother of God.
  • Because we are made worthy of the promises of Christ.
    Let us pray:
Infuse our spirit with your grace, O Father; you, who in the angel's announcement revealed to us the incarnation of your Son, by his passion and cross guide us to the glory of the resurrection. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

To suffrage the souls in purgatory

Eternal Father, through the most pure hands of Mary, I offer the Precious Blood of Jesus to suffrage the souls in purgatory and for the conversion of sinners.
Amen.

Christ Jesus, even today I have experienced around me indifference

Christ Jesus, even today I have experienced indifference around me. Help me not to become discouraged and fall into the same mistake. Grant that I may always be a witness of your love. Amen.

Visit, O Father

Visit, O Father, our house and keep from it the wiles of the enemy; may your holy angels come to keep us in peace, and may your blessing abide with us always. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of thanksgiving

I thank you, O Lord, for all the benefits you have given us. I ask you to continue to bless and protect us, so that we may always live in your grace. Amen.

Prayer in joy

Lord, thank you for the joy you have given me today. Help me to share this joy with others and to take your love where it is needed. Amen.

Prayer of praise

I praise and bless you, Lord, for your greatness and mercy. To you, almighty and eternal, go my praise forever. Amen.

Magnificat of the family

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit exults in God, my savior, because he has looked upon the humility of his servant. Henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Great things has the Almighty done in me, and holy is his name. From generation to generation his mercy is spread upon those who fear him. He has unfolded the power of his arm, He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; He has overthrown the mighty from their thrones, He has lifted up the lowly; He has filled the hungry with good things, He has sent the rich back empty-handed. He has rescued Israel, his servant, remembering his mercy, as he promised our fathers, Abraham and his descendants, forever.

Prayer of the family to God the Father

Holy Father, source of all good, we thank you for our family. We ask you to bless us, protect us and guide us always on your way. Grant that we may live in love and harmony, and that we may gratefully receive the gifts you give us. Amen.

Supplication to the Blessed Virgin Mary

O Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we turn to you with confidence. We beseech your intercession with your Son Jesus, that he may grant us the graces we need to live holily. Help us always to be faithful to God's will. Amen.

Evening Litany

Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, mercy. Christ, mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, hear us. Christ, hear us.
Christ, hear us out. Christ, hear us out.
Father in heaven, God, have mercy on us.
Son, Redeemer of the world, God, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, God, have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.
Holy Mary, pray for us.
Holy Mother of God, pray for us.
Holy Virgin of virgins, pray for us.
Mother of Christ, pray for us.
Mother of the Church, pray for us.

De Profundis

From the depths I cry out to you, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your attentive ears be
To the voice of my supplication.
If you consider the faults, Lord,
Lord, who will be able to subsist?
But with you is forgiveness:
So we will have your fear.
I hope, Lord,
hopes my soul,
I await your word.
My soul is turned to the Lord
More than sentinels at dawn.
More than sentinels at dawn,
Israel awaits the Lord,
For with the Lord is mercy
And great with him is redemption.
He will redeem Israel
From all his faults.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit,
send to us from heaven
A ray of your light.
Come, father of the poor,
Come, giver of the gifts,
Come, light of hearts.
Perfect consoler,
Sweet guest of the soul,
sweetest relief.
In fatigue, rest,
In the heat, shelter,
In weeping, comfort.
O most blessed light,
You invade in the intimate
The hearts of your faithful.
Without your strength,
Nothing is in man,
Nothing is without fault.
Wash what is sordid,
Wet what is dry,
Healthy what bleeds.
It bends that which is rigid,
It warms what is icy,
It straightens what is sidetracked.
Give to your faithful,
Who trust in you alone,
Your holy gifts.
It gives virtue and reward,
donate holy death,
Give eternal joy. Amen.

Prayer for parents

Lord, bless my parents. Give them health, peace and joy. Grant that they may always be united in your love and may raise me according to your will. Amen.

Prayer of the night

O Lord, watch over us this night. Protect us from all evil and grant us a peaceful rest. Grant that when we wake we may praise and thank you for the new day you give us. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our support against the wiles and wickedness of the devil. May God exercise his dominion over him, we beseech thee. And you, O Prince of the heavenly militia, by divine power, drive back into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who roam the world to lose souls. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

To you, O blessed Joseph, straitened by tribulation we turn, and confidently we invoke your patronage together with that of your most holy Bride. By that sacred bond of charity which clasped thee to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by the paternal love which thou borest to the infant Jesus, regard, we beseech thee, with a benign eye the dear inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased with his blood, and by thy power and help succor our needs. Protect, O provident guardian of the divine Family, the elect offspring of Jesus Christ; banish from us, O beloved Father, the errors and vices that cloud the world; assist us propitiously from heaven in this struggle against the power of darkness, O our strongest protector; and as you once saved from death the threatened life of the infant Jesus, so now defend the holy Church of God from hostile snares and every adversity; and cover each of us with your patronage, that by your example and succor we may virtuously live, piously die and attain eternal bliss in heaven. Amen.

Prayer to Padre Pio

O glorious Padre Pio, who in life bore witness to God's great love by your suffering and dedication, intercede for us before the Lord. Obtain for us the graces we need and help us to live according to God's will, loving and serving our neighbor. Amen.

How to prepare for evening prayer

  1. Find a quiet moment: Choose a quiet time in the evening, possibly before bedtime, when you can devote yourself to prayer without distraction.
  2. Creates a favorable environment: Choose a place in the house where you feel comfortable and that is conducive to recollection. You can also light a candle or use a holy icon to create a spiritual atmosphere.
  3. Make an examination of conscience: Before beginning the prayer, take a few minutes to reflect on the past day. Give thanks for the gifts you received, acknowledge your shortcomings and ask forgiveness for the mistakes you made.
  4. Relax and breathe deeply: Sit comfortably or kneel down, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to calm the mind and body, promoting concentration on prayer.
  5. Start with a sign of devotion: You can begin the prayer by making the sign of the cross or another sacred gesture according to your religious tradition to indicate that you are entering into a time of communion with God.
  6. Express gratitude: Start your prayer by thanking God for the graces received during the day, for the people you love and for all the blessings of life.
  7. Entrust your worries to God: Bring before God your concerns, the challenges you are facing and the people who need help. Ask for His support and guidance.
  8. Conclude with a request for a blessing: End your prayer by asking God to bless your night's rest and to accompany you always with His loving presence.
